I am attempting to configure X windows on my computer. When I startx, my monitor freaks out and starts rapidly flashing horizontal lines from the center of the screen outward. My monitor manual says that it has a horizontal sync rate of 30-50 Khz, a vertical sync of 50-100 Khz, and a maximum resolution of 1024x768. On advice from this list, I changed my Hsync to 30-36, which improved the problem somewhat. It doesn't support higher than 16 bits per pixel, and i have an ET4000/W32 card. My monitor's handbook unfortunately states that I need "A correct adapter" for these frequencies to be specific. I would appreciate any ideas on what I should do to fix X. Here is my startx log: XFree86 Version 3.2 / X Window System (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6100) Release Date: Oct 26 1996 If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is newer than the above date, look for a newer version before reporting problems.
