It may be that you did not "clean" out the build directory.  Do the following:

# cd /sys/compile/MYKERNEL
# make clean
# cd ../../i386/conf
# /usr/sbin/config MYKERNEL
# cd ../../compile/MYKERNEL
# make depend
# make
# make install
