The single thing that fixed everything for me was:
	setenv XKEYSYMDB /usr/lib/X11R6/lib/X11/XKeysymDB

Thanks to him or her who gave me that, as well as everyone else for your
help!

Does anyone care to "was:" the subject and describe to me what the
difference between "setenv" and "set" is, and why the above command line
worked and not one using "set" (if it's an appropriate topic that is).
