Since I have experienced problems with an SMC NIC which runs on the 'dc' driver, I went out and bought a new 3Com 3C905 NIC, which runs on the 'xl' driver. Ha! Not such a simple solution... When I boot, I get the following (beware MUA wrapping): --- Sep 4 11:51:46 obelix /kernel: pcib0: on motherboard Sep 4 11:51:46 obelix /kernel: pci0: on pcib0 Sep 4 11:51:46 obelix /kernel: pcib1: at device 8.0 on pci0 Sep 4 11:51:46 obelix /kernel: pci1: on pcib1 Sep 4 11:51:46 obelix /kernel: xl0: <3Com 3c905C-TX Fast Etherlink XL> port 0xb800-0xb87f mem 0xe4800000-0xe480007f irq 5 at device 6.0 on pci1 Sep 4 11:51:46 obelix /kernel: xl0: reset didn't complete Sep 4 11:51:46 obelix /kernel: xl0: Ethernet address: 00:04:75:bf:8d:a6 Sep 4 11:51:46 obelix /kernel: miibus0: on xl0 Sep 4 11:51:46 obelix /kernel: ukphy0: on miibus0 Sep 4 11:51:46 obelix /kernel: ukphy0: 10baseT, 10baseT-FDX, 100baseTX, 100baseTX-FDX, auto Sep 4 11:51:58 obelix /kernel: xl0: watchdog timeout Sep 4 11:51:58 obelix /kernel: xl0: reset didn't complete --- Those last two messages (watchdog timeout and reset didn't complete) repeat every minute or so. The NIC will not talk to the network, though 'ifconfig xl0' looks healthy. Have I done something wrong? Does anyone know of a fix? I have searched the archives, but I could not find anything that looked like a solution. I have had to revert to the 'dc' card for now, but that one is giving me problems of its own...
