I think you did not get the point here. I know that it's possible to send SMS over Modem to a mobile through a special number, also via ISDN, which uses V.120 on the B-Channel to transfer the data. This exists since many years here in Switzerland too. The hole thing it is all about is to send SMS over the D-Channel (that's the one used for signaling, B-Channel is the data channel) without the need to setup a connection to a service center. That an SMC is used is not the main issue here, as this will probably be the same as on the mobile. BTW: You don't establish a data connection while sending SMS on the mobile eighter, it's also done through the signaling. To demonstrate this, it's possible to send and receive SMS while you're talking on the mobile. Which would not work if a data connection is needed to transfer an SMS.
