For what it's worth, regardless of the merits the decision process regarding removing the MAINTAINER bit for Will on src/usr.bin/make, the prefered path would probably have been for you to ask Will to remove the bit himself, and then in the unlikely event that the request failed to have any effect, bring the issue up with core@. It's almost always better to ask someone to back something out, or request a change, than to do it yourself preemptively. Given that the MAINTAINER bit is somewhat poorly defined, more caution rather than less is probably the right decision until that problem is remedied :-). I realize that Will' status as a src/ committer is not entirely clear, which creates further confusion, and is something core@ probably needs to clarify some at some point anyway. Just as a heads up for anyone interested, we've been discussing the MAINTAINER issue on core@ for a bit now, and have some draft guideline updates we'll be posting for discussion in the near future.
