I can play a MP3 at 60%, and timidity from ~10% to ~30% (kind of a techno/dance/industrial .mid). And I can still use the machine, which is more than I got out of Windows(tm). Windows(tm) wants a 90 MHz machine to do what timidity does and still multitask.
