Chase and other VISA card providers, as well as some of the other card vendors have similar practices; for example, Chase will take overages as credit toward the account, but will not count it as you having made a payment. This means that if you overpay to cover your minimum payment (or even the entire balance), you still get charged a "late fee" for not making a payment (even if afterward, you still have a positive balance).
