When querying my HP TR4i tape drive I get: # mt status Present Mode: Density = 0x45 Blocksize = 512 bytes ---------available modes--------- Mode 0: Density = 0x00 Blocksize variable Mode 1: Density = X3.136-1986 Blocksize = 512 bytes Mode 2: Density = X3.39-1986 Blocksize variable Mode 3: Density = X3.54-1986 Blocksize variable But when trying to set a variable blocksize I get the following: # mt blocksize 0 Mar 14 17:18:27 redphone /kernel: st0(ahc0:4:0): ILLEGAL REQUEST asc:26,0 Invalid field in parameter list Mar 14 17:18:27 redphone /kernel: st0: Cannot set selected mode I've had no problems issuing this identical command on another host w/a Seagate TR4 running release 2.2.2. No doubt there's a lacuna in my understanding of things tape and SCSI but ...
