Well indeed RedHAt is a problem maker. It also has the worst performance
of any Linux distribution. Debian however runs good on Alpha. Also Suse
is supposed to run nicely (however, on my system (Alpha) is does not
install) The bad part about Debian is the dselect tool. Fortunately
after install one can copy all code to harddisk, and start using 'apt'
which is better.

So far I do not fully agree about FreeBSD on Alpha. There is a lot of
progress on 4.0 current so I keep hoping....it will be better.
At this moment Debian on Alpha is way ahead on FreeBSD on ALpha: both
for the amount of applications and for performance etc etc.  Since I
prefer FreeBSD I will just keep waiting for better times, don't get me
wrong  : - )

In Linux I always have to search where are my config files etc, since
they are more scattered over the system, then the neatly organized  *BSD
systems. 

Anyway, just to let you know.
