I checked the description at http://www.panasonic.com/industrial_oem/computer/storage/cd-rom/prods/discont/581.htm and there doesn't appear to be anything magical about this CDROM and a Packard Bell. Some one else may have had a similar problem. So, I cc'ed -questions.
