The phpgroupware group has also integrated squirrel into their groupware web solution - calendar, tasklist, etc (http://www.phpgroupware.org) I never got much opportunity to play with it, but they have some pretty cool plugins (stock quotes, etc) The only thing to keep in mind is that you will need to install the PHP4 module for Apache (or whatever server you are using). Squirrel will be able to send mail wether you have the PHP mail code installed or not because they implemented their own. I do know that they have really ramped up development lately on both projects, but I haven't kept up for 3 or 4 months now. You really can't say you checked out the best solutions until you try these. I loved SM, and PHPGW really had a nice interface and cool tools. BTW, on both of these tools, the user can choose their own 'theme' for look and feel. Pretty cool.
