The standard book on FreeBSD is "The Complete FreeBSD", second edition (http://www.cdrom.com/titles/os/bsdbook2.htm). Others that I like are "UNIX for the impatient", by Paul Abrahams and Bruce Larson (Addison Wesley) and "UNIX Power Tools" by Peek, O'Reilly and Loukides (O'Reilly).
