As as I said: I put it on ZFS. ;) It works well enough, as long as I make sure it never runs low on RAM. (Basically, I threw money at the problem.) There are a few cases where compression isn't a win - if you have a section that you know will have mostly non-compressible data it's worth turning off. (I also haven't actually tried it on *root*, just in case... Not that I'd expect problems, but I didn't see the need to take the chance.) But most of my stuff is compressed. Note that changing compression settings doesn't affect anything *currently* on the disk; just new writes. Daniel T.
