FreeBSD comes with many choices of graphical interface. FreeBSD ships with XFreee86 for managing your display. You can also choose other X servers if you prefer. There are a number of desktop managers from which you can choose for FreeBSD, including the two most popular - Gnome and KDE. There is a choice of an enormous number of window managers for FreeBSD as well. FreeBSD comes with a number of shells from which you can choose and there are a choice several more which you can add. These enable you to interact with the system using commands at a text based console. As you might have gathered, the biggest difference between FreeBSD and Windows is that you have choices. Naturally this means that there is a bit of additional complexity, but when you install FreeBSD you will be given a few common options to get you started. From there you can try other things and find what suits you best. Note that XFreee86, desktops such as Gnome and KDE and the various window managers are not part of FreeBSD, but are independents free software projects which work with FreeBSD. -Andrew- -- _______________________________________________________________________ | -Andrew J.
