I have a Seagate Python (DSS-20) tape streamer, and it won't accept a retension command. Well, it accepts it, but nothing happens. Any ideas why this is so? This is what happens: $ mt ret $ <---- immediately, I get a fresh prompt. nothing happens. I doesn't matter how much or little data there is on the tape. FreeBSD 3.3-RELEASE, adaptec 1540CS scsi card. If you need more input, don't hesitate to ask.
