If so, this probably isn't a good idea, you'll mix the two networks' traffic together and confuse the OS. Also, can you ping each of the other machines on the public side of things?? Do you have any machines on the private side of things?? Have you tried just swapping the two ethernet cables (plugging one from de0 into xl0 and vice-versa.)
