Gnome uses its own default windows manager which name I forgot but can you many others. Just stick to it as long as you are happy with it. If you later feel that Gnome as a bit fat, you then can start using other Gnome compatible window managers. This gives you the option to switch between Gnome and your new window manager and it also gives you the option to tell Gnome to use that window manager. Get used now to your 'new' desktop and scout out what possibilities it has. Erich
