I just replaced the "unsupported" FreeBSD version with a "supported" Linux version. It works like a charm on all machines under every circumstance. I'm not sure whether it's me or not but the only differences I can see are that the fonts look a little different and the spacing of the buttons in the button bar is a little wider. These didn't take long to get used to, especially now that it works consistently.
