The hard drive failed on which the /var partition is configured. Everything on that drive is lost. Fortunately "/" and "/usr" were on another drive and they are just fine. I express a sigh of relief.....wee. No problem I say, I'll just restore my backup of /var after I replace the hard drive. All goes well until I find that the backup of /var is no good. Can the pkg.db be rebuilt without the package registry files normally found in /var/db/pkg ? portdb, pkgdb and portupgrade do not seem to offer any hope.........? If there is a way to rebuild the package database ? Thanks, Mike To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
