May I suggest to add a note that after setting gnome_enable="YES" in rc.conf as per http://www.freebsd.org/gnome/docs/faq2.html#q1 you need to invoke the startup-script as root? And rephrase "This will enable services such as GDM, HAL, D-BUS, and Avahi" to "...on subsequent system startups" (sounds awful, but will do and is precise). This is not obvious to people new to BSD. I strongly suggest to move the gnome_enable bit in front of the section on "Make GNOME 2.18 start when X starts."
