Well, i just tried this new driver (i modified it a bit so it will compile on
-current)

Now dmesg says:

vx0 <3Com 3c590 EtherLink III PCI> rev 0 int a irq 9 on pci0:11
utp[*UTP*] address 0:20:af:f7:f2:dd
Warning! Defective early revision adapter!

(somehow the other driver complained about "eeprom failed to become ready",
isn't this weird?)

And the problem is still there (i.e. ifconfig vx0 up/down is required) :-(
