So there is a chance that your cooler simply needs fresh > thermal paste after 3 years. thanx for the replies guys. i'm going to buy another heatsink and redo the paste today. at the moment, putting the machine in a properly airconned (18 celcius) has actually done the trick, it makes it through those bigger compiles.
