Some ports depend on this since they contain FreeBSD 5.x binaries, and users will need it for compatibility with their old 5.4 binaries. We need to have this in place in time for the next BETA, so that it can be well tested prior to the release. Someone else had promised to do this a month ago, but then neglected to produce a result, and re@ has been unable to work on this problem too. Can someone please volunteer to work on this? The compat4x port should be a useful starting point for this - you could fetch the library "sources" by downloading the appropriate 5.4-RELEASE tarballs. Of course, this will be needed for all FreeBSD 5.4 architectures.
