The thing I noticed that got my modem to finally dial is to change around the ppp.conf file. [NOT ON FBSD NOW] In /etc/ppp/ppp.conf there is a default section that has all the init stuff for the modem [chat script basically, if you don't know what I'm talking about e-mail me and I'll send ya mine], what I noticed is if I comment out one chat script and uncomment another one exactly the same but with just one thing different [one is init AT&F other is AT&FQ (somethign like that) ppp will dial out, then it would die after me doing ppp -auto isp for like 10 hours, I would go back to ppp.conf and comment one chat script and uncomment my other one, for some reason that worked, I still cannot explain it, nor do I have the vaguest idea of what is happening and why it's doing that sometimes. I hope you understood what I'm talking about, but I've had this problem three times, all those times it was solved by me changing the chat script in ppp.conf [I have two in there, and I just comment one, uncomment the other]. I would also like a true answer of why this happens, I'll probably figure it out if I play with it long enough. Any ideas anyone? my modem is cuaa3, ps/2 mouse. --- www.nul.cjb.net --- The Power to Crash --- www.FreeBSD.org --- The Power to Serve -----Original Message----- From: owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG [mailto:owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG]On Behalf Of err Sent: Saturday, November 11, 2000 9:38 PM To: freebsd-questions@freebsd.org Subject: ppp help I was wondering if you would be able to help me with a problem i was having with freeBSD. It wont dial.. it gets the dialtone ,but doesnt dial. i edited the ppp.conf file in /etc/ppp/ and set it for my modem port and username and password and access #.. it is a hard modem.. picks up my modem, with no problem, but when i try ppp -ddial or if i go into the ppp menu, and type dial, nothing happens but a dialtone , and an eventual operator.. Thank you for any help you can provide.
