The machine is a Hitachi Visionbook Pro 7560 (a laptop). The kernel that comes off the 3.1 CDROM works fine, except it's missing Advanced Power Management, and I prefer to suspend my computer before putting it into the bag instead of halting it. So I recompiled a kernel, copying GENERIC to APM and enabling APM but making no other changes. *That* kernel comes up and says: Apr 9 20:28:59 rsm /kernel: display device> rev 0xc2 on pci0.2.0 Apr 9 20:28:59 rsm /kernel: chip3: rev 0x01 int a irq 10 on pci0.10.0 Apr 9 20:28:59 rsm /kernel: chip4: rev 0x01 int b irq 255 on pci0.10.1 Apr 9 20:28:59 rsm /kernel: lnc1: rev 0x16 int a irq 10 on pci0.11.0 Apr 9 20:28:59 rsm /kernel: lnc1: Memory allocated above 16Mb limit This message about 16Mb is new, the off-the-CDROM kernel didn't print it (and I never saw it while running 2.2.8). Since this is a PCI device it ought not matter? (That's what the comment in the device driver says, anyway.) Apr 9 20:28:59 rsm /kernel: lnc1: PCnet-PCI II address 00:00:e1:09:7b:87 Apr 9 20:28:59 rsm /kernel: Probing for devices on PCI bus 1: Apr 9 20:28:59 rsm /kernel: Probing for devices on PCI bus 2: Apr 9 20:28:59 rsm /kernel: Probing for devices on the ISA bus: Apr 9 20:28:59 rsm /kernel: sc0 on isa .... Once the system comes up, the lnc driver is very unhappy: Apr 9 20:29:01 rsm /kernel: lnc1: Missed packet -- no receive buffer Apr 9 20:29:01 rsm last message repeated 11 times Apr 9 20:29:01 rsm /kernel: lnc1: Device timeout -- Resetting Apr 9 20:29:01 rsm /kernel: lnc1: Missed packet -- no receive buffer Apr 9 20:29:01 rsm last message repeated 2 times Apr 9 20:29:01 rsm /kernel: lnc Apr 9 20:29:01 rsm /kernel: 1: Missed packet -- no receive buffer Apr 9 20:29:01 rsm /kernel: lnc1: Missed packet -- no receive buffer Apr 9 20:29:01 rsm last message repeated 21 times Apr 9 20:29:01 rsm /kernel: lnc1: Missed p Apr 9 20:29:01 rsm /kernel: acket -- no receive buffer Apr 9 20:29:01 rsm /kernel: lnc1: Missed packet -- no receive buffer and I can't get much in the way of network traffic in or out. - What is the config file for the kernel that comes on the CDROM? Isn't it GENERIC? - Does anyone have a fix for this? - david mankins (dm@bbn.com, dm@world.std.com, phone(US): 617-873-2873) To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-mobile" in the body of the message
