Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG I want to install via a cable modem (my ethernet interface), but rely on my providers' DHCP server for all this information. Help! http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/install-guide.html 2.2.1.6. Before Installing over a Network "You will also need to know your IP address on the network, the netmask value for your address class, and the name of your machine. Your system administrator can tell you which values to use for your particular network setup. If you will be referring to other hosts by name rather than IP address, you will also need a name server and possibly the address of a gateway (if you are using PPP, it is your provider's IP address) to use in talking to it. If you do not know the answers to all or most of these questions, then you should really probably talk to your system administrator before trying this type of installation. " Does the install support DHCP? Will it in the future? For now, I'll use another operating system to obtain a DHCP lease for that NIC, then disconnect without releasing and use that lease information to get the network install started. I just hope it finishes before my lease times out. Regards, Charles Hill To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
