I tried to re-install freebsd from the installation cd thinking that would solve the problem, and when i did during the installation it said "Couldn't extract the following distributions. This may be because they were not available on the installation media you've chosen: Local" i would guess this is the source of the problem, so we tried to install that distribution set off of an ftp server which gave us the exact same error.
