Good. That's the best solution for now. I didn't realize that the samba port was going to auto-detect the presence of PAM and try to use it, or I would have fixed that when I imported PAM. Our PAM support is not "incompatible" with Linux, or "old". It's simply a subset at this point in time. Most of the Linux modules (look for yourself) are both Linux-specific and poorly written. Frankly, I don't want them to be used for authentication in FreeBSD. I'm working on filling in the gaps in our module support and also in PAMifying our other applications such as ftpd and telnetd.
