Well, not really. The draft specifies that the DHCP client MUST [sic] try to lease an address a number of times. If it gets a DHCPNAK, it's not allowed to autoconfigure. The client also must continue to check for a DHCP server every so often. If it gets a DHCPAC "DoNOTAutoConfigure" response at some point, it must drop all existing connections, lose the autoconfigured address, and start looking for a DHCP server again. If it gets a DHCPOFFER, it leases a real address on the network. AFAICT, the Microsoft implementation does this, surprisingly enough. Check out the draft, though. Cheers, Mick The Reverend Jasper P.
