Not the last | one though. Make sure you're outputting to the right device. From the | looks of things you need to rewire /dev/MAKEDEV to generate symlinks to | snd1. Output is going to snd1; I symlinked that by hand -- I *do* get sound via cat or rplay. I'm not terribly concerned about the messages, except that they may be a clue to what's wrong with xemacs and windowmaker not being able to generate sounds.
