However the machine is not accessable from here, and there is no internet access from where that machine is. I'm trying to get a FreeBSD 4.2 RELEASE machine on the net with a modem. The modem in question is a 56K US robotics ISA jumperable/PNP modem. In PNP mode, its detected at boot up, something to the effect of: sio0: something something 56K something 2f8 (or whatever serial 2 is). There is a mouse on serial 1. It works fine under X. When I cat /dev/cuaa0 it outputs two extended ascii charactors. When I cat /dev/cuaa1 it says device not configured. I type ppp -ddial I get an error message about /dev/cuaa1 and a bad file descriptor. As I've said, I know I should be shot for posting such a non-specific message, but under the circumstances its about the best I can do. If anyone can recommend some more advanced form of troubleshooting based on what little I have provided, I would greatly appreciate it. While I've set up PPPoE on FreeBSD before, this is my first time with a real live modem in the box. Thanks for any help. -- Cotharyus lauasanf@bellsouth.net ICQ: 8690555 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
