Is it a good idea to replace (t)csh? >=20 > --=20 > Chad Perrin [ original content licensed OWL: http://owl.apotheon.org ] Though I dislike the OP's dismissal of backticks, I must admit that I would prefer that the standard shell be at least Bourne-compatible. I use csh for root for all the reasons that you shouldn't change your root shell. I suppose I could change root to /bin/sh, but that doesn't even have command recall. I don't know how many times I've keyed in a nicely composed off-the-cuff conditional only to have it fall flat. I have to remind myself to start zsh first when working as root, or start getting used to using toor instead, or just always use sudo. --=20 Sterling (Chip) Camden | sterling@camdensoftware.com | 2048D/3A978E4F http://chipsquips.com | http://camdensoftware.com | http://chipstips.com --NQTVMVnDVuULnIzU Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.11 (FreeBSD) iQEcBAEBAgAGBQJNZt4cAAoJEIpckszW26+R5qUH/2bzPu9Gq4i9Mv95f7ULIkEN 1AY2atmBu79uH8Co1DY7ofxcWpTRh0TW5eY5NCyBRAtKxA+7MS5T9qMJMSkS3OJz NzW9E2xiamGALmRxjvVBAZlMwsBuQJiaALsroRgzB37kb9KlJZPE7uUVYeJoSLYl N+H6SH0W91paNJ7XeLwuyS46IR6IP2X157XlntmINMrASp0fr3/809+jJh2dSMGq 3O1qySpiupw5wwyVMqBFoe9A8FkO3GXXHYfOB7v4i6g71lH/T0BB0xfMghHlC0GG oMQYgZpvvlIUmCXMdTX16LWSAF29R0Jy6Pvy1c41swyNK0LgSm2PjQPW7DvvuTs= =bPXi -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --NQTVMVnDVuULnIzU--
