So the question becomes how should we organize the source tree to deal with this? I'd like to propose src/lib/compat//{compat3x,compat4x,etc..} This would require a repository copy of src/lib/compat/compat3x, but those files aren't tagged, so we can do a repo move vs. copy. Thus there won't be any added bloat to the tree. I propose to leave compat{1x,2{0,1,2}} where they are to reduce repository bloat and to just leave our heritage alone.
