I probably know what the problem is here, but you do need to get into the habit of quoting error messages verbatim, for example: apm: can't open /dev/apm: Device not configured :-) In your case, you probably just need to do this: cd /dev ./MAKEDEV apm0 Ciao, Sheldon.
