There isn't the concept of a modemdriver in FreeBSD, where the application sends a command, eg "Dial this number", and a driver in the kernel figures out which string to send. Each application talks directly with the modem. Generally, as long as you are talking just data, all modems which connects to a serial port, or looks like one to the OS are supported. Sometimes you have to modify the AT-strings, but the defaults usually works. Only if you are talking more sofisticated things like faxing or voicemail, things could get a little complicated. But then again, fax classes 2 and 2.0, which are fairly standard is supported.
