FreeBSD is (IMHO) the number freely availiable UNIX. It will give you an excellent understanding of UNIX if you work hard at it. I have been using it for about 5 months. It is a learning curve but also the most fun I've ever had on a computer. I ran a dual boot with Win95 for a while until I learned enough about FreeBSD. Dual boot will work great as long as Windows is installed first. The FBSD set-up will install the boot manager for you. Good Luck!!
