The process worked quite well, with some minor bumps. Most were probably my doing. One apparent bug is that the new boot loader, if I understand its help messages correctly, should take: boot -s kernel.old to boot kernel.old in single user mode. This actually boots kernel. To boot kernel.old in single user mode, I had to specify: boot kernel.old -s A minor point. My bigger problem is that I can nolonger login as myself through xdm. I can login (non-X); I can login (X) as root. As myself, I see fvwm start (sets screen color), screen flashes again, then I'm sent back to the login window. I suspect something I've done is not quite kosher, but it was working before. . . My .xsession-errors has: ----- IP DISPLAY :0 X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
