An X11 config that works for Linux will also work for FreeBSD (check Google). Other potential problem areas include power management, built-in WinModems, and CardBus support. Incidentally, an older, cheaper notebook that is considered too slow to work well with less efficient operating systems can work fine with FreeBSD. My 192M, 300 MHz PII (used) Toshiba runs a full FreeBSD install fine, and cost less than a quarter of what a new 1G machine would have cost.
