Travan drive's are much cheaper up front and you keep paying for each tape that you purchase. Everything with DLT is expensive. Dat drive's are more expensive than Travan's but the tapes are much cheaper. The DLT's seem to be the most reliable. I never had much luck with the QIC style of tapes, which the Travan's fall into. You could backup 40,000 files but many times only 39,995 would compare and they hadn't been modified during the backup process. That wasn't a backup in my book. I had a lot better luck with the DAT's. One of them got me during my battle with upgrading from 3.4-s to 4.0-s.
