I think what you're referring to is brushed metal?  If so, you can find
it in /usr/X11R6/share/gnome/nautilus/patterns/brushed_metal.png.  But,
honestly, you can do better.  Explore http://art.gnome.org or
http://www.themedepot.org for more examples.
