(Boy am I glad the release is out or what, > this is so much fun) Will you shush with this! :-) Anyone who's tempted to go and see what Satoshi keeps alluding to, please see ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/READNOW.TXT I'll include it here for convenience's sake, but I'm sure you can all see why I'd wanted as little about this said as possible! :) --- ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/READNOW.TXT --- If you are reading this file, then you're seeing the unannounced version of FreeBSD 2.1.0-RELEASE. The release will not be officially announced until 12:00PM PST, 20 November 1995 (Monday). This release remains unannounced so that the mirror sites will have 2 full days to fetch it over before the hoards of users decend upon them. This is only fair to the mirrors, and it gives better service to the FreeBSD users as well, most of whom will be able to use multiple, simultaneous points for getting the release rather than just the one overloaded one (ftp.freebsd.org) that almost no one can get to. We've tried it that way before, and take my word for it - it doesn't work very well! :-) I must also ask for your cooperation in NOT discussing this release on any of the FreeBSD mailing lists until Monday. I realize that many of you will be grabbing it over the weekend, unable to wait another day, but do at least try to keep the number of people converging on this site to an absolute minimum by not shouting about it from the rooftops, if you can. The longer we can keep this quiet, the more likely it will get mirrored before ftp.cdrom.com is hammered mercilessly into the ground. We, the maintainers of ftp.cdrom.com, will thank you, the mirrors will thank you and, ultimately, the users will thank you. Thank you! Jordan
