Seems the trick is to install= xf86-video-vmware-10.16.9 (we are using 8.1-RELEASE), then re-run the vmwa= re-config.pl file that you un-packed from the vmware-tools tarball, then ru= n "X -configure" (as root), then copy /root/xorg.conf.new to /etc/X11/xorg.= conf (making appropriate backups first, of course).
