Never heard of any lockups there... sounds like your disk controller or something needs the nudge that pressing a key triggers. I'd check for a BIOS update and reinstall boot2 with "disklabel -B ad0". Do you have boot0 installed (i.e.k, does it ask for an F key to pick a partition)?
