I could confirm that this always happens on 8.0-RELEASE i386/amd64, but I have not succeeded to find out what causes this problem. The similar problem (data transfer ended successfully, but failed to detect connection was closed) was observed in NcFTP and reported in stable@ yesterday, but its solution can not seems to apply to this. (Subject: duplicity ftp backup / ncftp no longer working since 8.0-Release) Any suggestions are welcome.
