OK .... 50 odd computers in various locations around the city with 33.6k dialin modem access to a central server connected to the net via an increasingly congested pipe. Another 10 also with similar dialin access but also having a 512k permanent cable connection to the net. All modem links have fixed public IPs but the cable links all have DHCP IPs. What I want to do is offload some of the (http only) traffic between the central server & the net onto the cable connected machines. I know the easiest way would be to simply increase the size of the pipe, however its not as simple as that in OZ ..... telcos ask an arm & three legs for any connection using public IPs, typically 5 times the cost of a DHCP link.
