Yesterday I upgraded XFree86 to version 4 and managed to get KDM configured to auto-magically launch KDE into my default user account (NOT root, of course). I don't like logging out of my user account to go into root whenever I need to change configuration settings or access a conf file; I'd rather open a terminal and use "su" to enter my root account for administrative tasks. My problem is this: whenever I enter my root account this way and then try launching kedit or kcontrol, I run into problems. No application will run this way--launched from a terminal that has been "su"ed to access the root account. They worked fine when launched this way in XFree86-3.3.6, but not in version 4.0.3. When I try to launch kedit this way, I get this error message: Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server kedit: cannot connect to X server :0.0 When I try running kcontrol, I get a lot error messages; if you folks can't give me a fix based on the note above, I'll post the longer message from kcontrol. Thanks muchly.
