The commercial vendors page has

    XVScan allows you to use your HP ScanJet scanner under FreeBSD. It is 
    a commercial product based on John Bradley's xv.

I found this by going to <URL:http://www.freebsd.org/search.html> and
searching the web pages for "scan".

Also, in the ports system there's 

    Category graphics

    hpscan-1.0 
    HP scanner driver.
    Maintained by: nate@FreeBSD.org
    Requires: jpeg-6a
    Description : Browse : Download : Package : Changes : Sources 

    sane-0.65 
    API for access to scanners, digitals camera, frame grabbers etc.

which look like they could be useful. I found these by going to 
<URL:http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/ports.cgi> and searching for "scan".
