Because, as has been stated many times on this list, there is a GNOME upgrade going on of somewhat large proportions, and we try and keep misc/mc and x11-fm/gnomemc in sync with each other. Indeed, if you go to the oft-mentioned location: http://www.lovett.com/~ade/gnome/ you will find an 'others' tarball, containing a whole bunch of patches for things that are affected in one way or another by the GNOME 1.4 upgrade, one of them being misc/mc.
