Anyway... I recently upgraded from 2.1.0 to 2.2.2, so I could get the 32 port per card support for the cyclades. The pppd that comes with 2.2.2-release (2.2?) does not co-exist nicely with later versions of NT4, Win95, or user PPP from the October 3.0-SNAP CD. It seems that allowing compression negotiation really confuses things. I went in vain to 2.3.1 thinking that this would be better (although I see 2.3.2 is out). This let some people work ok, but broke other people who were previously ok. This is a log of the transactions between user ppp and pppd 2.3.1, sorry I don't have any customers running a problem version of 95/NT who are patient enough to let me test stuff with them to have a log. I've added noccp to the default options, which has fixed the problem for the user PPP. I'm still waiting for one of the problem NT/win95 people to log in, to see if they've been fixed. So the question out of all of this is; am I doing something wrong? Or is it general brokeness and I've just been unlucky enough to have the wrong combination of customers to put me between a rock and a hard place? I checked the pr's and I didn't see any open associated with this, and the mail list had entried about NT being broken and needing service pack fixes /etc/ppp/options: auth modem login proxyarp passive mru 296 noccp ----- Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: pppd 2.3.1 started by xxxxxxxx, uid 10005 Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: Using interface ppp7 Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: Connect: ppp7 <--> /dev/ttyc0a Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 ] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [LCP ConfReq id=0x4 ] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: sent [LCP ConfAck id=0x4 ] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [LCP ConfAck id=0x1 ] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [PAP AuthReq id=0x1 user="xxxxxxxx" password="xxxxxxxxx"] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: user xxxxxxxx logged in Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: sent [PAP AuthAck id=0x1 "Login ok"] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: sent [IPCP ConfReq id=0x1 ] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: sent [CCP ConfReq id=0x1 ] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [IPCP ConfReq id=0x1 ] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: sent [IPCP ConfAck id=0x1 ] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [CCP ConfReq id=0x1 ] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: sent [CCP ConfRej id=0x1 ] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [IPCP ConfAck id=0x1 ] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: found interface ed0 for proxy arp Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: local IP address 203.30.3.3 Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: remote IP address 203.30.3.26 Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [CCP ConfRej id=0x1 ] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: sent [CCP ConfReq id=0x2] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [CCP ConfReq id=0x2] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: sent [CCP ConfAck id=0x2] Nov 27 22:52:14 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [CCP ConfAck id=0x2] Nov 27 22:52:18 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [proto=0xfd] 80 2e 19 21 45 2c 5e 88 02 40 40 06 54 39 cb 1e 40 03 1a 81 6b 38 67 19 00 11 44 a4 f4 2f ea 0e 4d 20 cb 32 60 12 40 15 04 23 02 04 01 75 09 Nov 27 22:52:18 whistler pppd[18853]: sent [CCP ResetReq id=0x3] Nov 27 22:52:18 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [CCP ResetAck id=0x3] Nov 27 22:52:21 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [proto=0xfd] 80 2e 19 21 45 2c 5e 89 02 40 40 06 54 38 cb 1e 40 03 1a 81 6b 38 67 19 00 11 44 a4 f4 2f ea 0e 4d 20 cb 32 60 12 40 15 04 23 02 04 01 f8 03 Nov 27 22:52:21 whistler pppd[18853]: sent [CCP ResetReq id=0x4] Nov 27 22:52:21 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [CCP ResetAck id=0x3] Nov 27 22:52:27 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [proto=0xfd] 80 2e 19 21 45 2c 5e 8a 02 40 40 06 54 37 cb 1e 40 03 1a 81 6b 38 67 19 00 11 44 a4 f4 2f ea 0e 4d 20 cb 32 60 12 40 15 04 23 02 04 01 c8 06 Nov 27 22:52:27 whistler pppd[18853]: sent [CCP ResetReq id=0x5] Nov 27 22:52:27 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [CCP ResetAck id=0x3] Nov 27 22:52:39 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [proto=0xfd] 80 2e 19 21 45 2c 5e 9a 02 40 40 06 54 27 cb 1e 40 03 1a 81 6b 38 67 19 00 11 44 a4 f4 2f ea 0e 4d 20 cb 32 60 12 40 15 04 23 02 04 01 18 ae Nov 27 22:52:39 whistler pppd[18853]: sent [CCP ResetReq id=0x6] Nov 27 22:52:39 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [CCP ResetAck id=0x3] Nov 27 22:53:03 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [proto=0xfd] 80 2e 19 21 45 2c 5e b0 02 40 40 06 54 11 cb 1e 40 03 1a 81 6b 38 67 19 00 11 44 a4 f4 2f ea 0e 4d 20 cb 32 60 12 40 15 04 23 02 04 01 08 8a Nov 27 22:53:03 whistler pppd[18853]: sent [CCP ResetReq id=0x7] Nov 27 22:53:03 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [CCP ResetAck id=0x3] Nov 27 22:53:33 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [proto=0xfd] 80 2a 19 21 45 28 5e b1 02 40 40 06 54 14 cb 1e 40 03 1a 81 6b 38 67 19 00 11 44 a4 f4 2f eb 0e 4d 20 cb 32 50 14 40 28 09 03 c7 90 Nov 27 22:53:33 whistler pppd[18853]: sent [CCP ResetReq id=0x8] Nov 27 22:53:33 whistler pppd[18853]: rcvd [CCP ResetAck id=0x3] -- ,-_|\ SneakerNet | Andrew Milton | GSM: +61(41)6 022 411 / \ P.O.
